A transport ship is forced down on a desert planet. The ship's pilots are surprised to discover their only passenger is none other than Thenurion, leader of the Vanguard. While the pilots are recovering from that shock, Thenurion announces that the ship was sabotaged! Then another ship appears in orbit above them, and as Thenurion investigates, it opens fire.....
It is the 24th century, and Earth is part of an interstellar republic called the Galactic Union of Planets. The greatest defenders of this interstellar alliance are the Vanguard, a team of powerful, near-immortal heroes who deal with the galaxy's greatest threats to life and liberty, and explore the universe's greatest wonders.
