When Jo’naas receives an invitation to his father’s centennial birthday celebration on his homeworld of Volara, he and his human shipmate Jared from the exploratory vessel Odyssey embark on what should be a peaceful trip home. After escaping the Erazi militants, the crew takes shore leave on the planet Volara. For science officer Jared, the break becomes a series of encounters with alien customs, including Jo’naas’s pranks, his sister Par’vati’s romantic advances, and a jealous fiancé challenging him to an aerial race. Meanwhile, the Odyssey faces a crisis while trapped in a nebula that ages the crew and drains the ship’s power.
