Pete Moss is a kid who wants to be a cartoonist. So much so, in fact, that he tracks down his idol, a legendary cartoonist known as “El Pulpo,” to ask him what “nib” he uses (“nibs” are what great cartoonists use to draw with.) Thus the adventure begins, and soon Pete and Pulpo are off on a globe-spanning quest in search of the fabled “Holy Nib,” getting mixed up with strange cartoon cults and evil “Nibzis,” who also want the Holy Nib. They have to solve DaVinci Code-like riddles, and watch out for the Kartonians as well (Kartonia is an impoverished Middle Eastern country whose people, oddly, have a burning desire to surpass the West in the art of making funny books.) Even if Pete and Pulpo DO find the Nib, will their mutual hunger for its power wreck their friendship?
