That’s better. Although we still get the usual right-wing rant on the editorial page, this time the story is unaffected and is actually pretty cool – featuring cameos by nearly all of the ABC heroines introduced over the years.

One of the drawbacks to ABC comics is also one of the more oddly appealing things about them – their time jumps. This is probably largely due to the fact that there are often years that pass between the publication of issues, but for whatever reason, there are often large gaps of time between issues within the stories as well. On the one hand it can be frustrating to not see the development of characters or events from point A to point B. On the other, it keeps the stories moving at a rapid clip, leaving the events of those gaps to be inferred or left as a mystery to perhaps be revealed in time. How much time exactly has passed between the first issue and this one is not discussed (though since Robyn is said to be 12 or 13 in issue #1 and she appears quite nude in this issue, it’s either a very long time or else we’re looking at some questionable material by Western standards.) But she’s gone from complete newb to fully trained sidekick out on her first solo mission. One of the characters she’s teamed up with at some point during the gap is Olive from the Just A Girl series, now in her new identity of Justice Girl (and drawn in such a way as to suggest that yes, indeed, some time has passed since her last appearance.) There is also an intriguing glimpse into Robyn’s future identity.

Despite the awkward insertion of the author’s politics into the first issue that dragged it down, this is the strongest release from ABC in some time, and the one I most hope will continue at some point.
